The aim of Subject SA1 is to apply the main principles that are relevant to the provision of health and care benefits to complex scenarios concerning the management of health and care insurance companies, allowing for relevant regulatory, legislative and professional requirements, and the business environment in which the health and care business is sold.

Fellowship Qualification - Subject SA1 builds on principles and knowledge which are introduced in Subject SP1, covering more complex scenarios than those considered in SP1.

The Subject SA1 assessment is a timed online exam, which is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The aim of Subject SA3 is to apply relevant actuarial principles and techniques to complex scenarios concerning the management of general insurance companies, allowing for relevant regulatory, legislative and professional requirements.

Fellowship Qualification - Subject SP7, Subject SP8 and Subject SA3 are a trio of subjects for actuarial work specific to general insurance. Each subject develops a specific set of skills and knowledge needed by actuaries working in or who wish to work in general insurance. The subjects are related as follows:

Subject SP7 covers relevant actuarial principles and techniques for reserving and capital modelling within general insurance companies, and how these link to other business processes such as data, business planning, pricing, reinsurance and investment.

Subject SP8 covers relevant actuarial principles and techniques for pricing of general insurance and reinsurance products, and how these link to other business processes such as data, risk management, business planning, reserving, capital setting, reinsurance and catastrophe modelling.

Subject SA3 builds upon the skills and knowledge covered in Subject SP7 and Subject SP8, applied to more complex scenarios. It covers general insurance markets, regulation, legislation, taxation, financial management, monitoring and strategies.

  • Apply the main principles relevant to the provision of pensions and other benefits, to the management of benefit arrangements, allowing for the regulatory, legislative and business environment, as well as professional requirements.
  • Provide solutions and give appropriate recommendations to business problems relating to benefit arrangements and the management of risk.

Fellowship Qualification - Subject SP4 introduces the main principles and knowledge required for pensions and other benefits, and how these principles can be applied in simple scenarios. These concepts are built on in Subject SA4 and applied in more complex scenarios.

The aim of Subject SA7 is to apply knowledge of the financial environment in the UK and other jurisdictions and the principles of actuarial practice to the selection and management of investments in complex situations and appropriate to the needs of a range of investors, together with relevant aspects of corporate finance.

Associate Qualification - Subject SA7 builds on the principles of corporate finance developed in Subject CB1 and develops further understanding of Macroeconomics introduced in Subject CB2.

Fellowship Qualification - Subject SP5, Subject SP6 and Subject SA7 are considered a trio of subjects for the actuarial work specific to Investment and Finance. Concepts introduced in Subject SP5 are developed in Subject SA7 via more complex 'real world' problems. Subject SP6 focusses in detail on the technical aspects of derivatives and their use - a working knowledge of derivatives is useful to solve some 'real world' problems in Subject SA7.
