I was just wondering for all you trainee/part-qualified/qualified actuaries out there how many hours (excluding study) go into a typical work week?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the hours are quite consistent (I realise there will always be deadlines meaning working late).

Would those who work as actuaries agree with this?

i think it depends on the culture of the company and team you're working for as much as anything.

if you're working for a big consultancy, long hours (50+/week) might be the norm, but in my experience (in london market general insurance), working 9-5.30 or 6pm is typical, with just the occasional late evening to meet a deadline.

I think actuaries generally get a pretty good work/life balance compared to other professions/industries where you can earn similar salaries (e.g. banking or law).
