Welcome to the Subject ST1 forum!

This forum is for you to discuss anything at all to do with Subject ST1– although remember there is a separate forum for discussion about the ST1 exam itself.

Here’s something to get you started:

To what extent do you think knowledge of ST2 and ST3 helps with the study of ST1?

Well I only started studying ST1 now - I'm on chapter 3, so not a really "expert" opinion yet!

I wrote 302 under the old syllabus, and was expecting the knowledge of income protection, LT care etc. products that I had from that sitting to help me in preparing for ST1. But from what I've seen so far the product descriptions are so much more detailed that I may as well ignore the teeny bit that I know from 302.

I would expect there to be some chapters on assumption setting and reserving etc. that would be similar to ST2 though, so hopefully relief is still to come!

  3. I've sat this once before, and there are certainly a few chapters which are basically identical between ST1 and ST2 - hence why I sat them together in the first place, and am doing so again this time!

So knowledge of some chapters of ST2 means you literally don't have to revise some chapters of ST1, though you need to know the difference's (ST2 references a term assurance where ST1 references a CI product).

I think you save yourself between 15% and 20% of the work of one subject by doing both together - so 200% becomes somewhere around 180% or 185%.
