    Welcome to the Subject ST3 forum!

    This forum is for you to discuss anything at all to do with Subject ST3 – although remember there is a separate forum for discussion about the ST3 exam itself.

    Here’s something to get you started:

    What do you think about the mathematical topics brought in to Subject ST3 from the old Subject 106? Do you think they rightly belong in ST3? :confused:

    why not, but should be relevant

    I'm all for getting a bit more technical stuff into the ST's. (Isn't that what the T stands for) Make's you feel like the CT's actually are not all lost efforts. I would be happy to see a lot of waffle replaced by useful technical points.

    However, do we really need those proofs in there (EBCT)? Who cares? They're not even intellectually challenging, they're just long and boring. Now, I might upset a few people here, but if you feel the notes can't be reduced in size(i.e. leave out the proofs and other useless bits) can't we then replace that by Generalised Linear Models. I'm not sure if the Institute is aware, but GLM, contrary to proofs, IS actually used in practice.

    Just to give you some ideas of what we need in practice but which is not covered by the ST3 exams:
    * Capital allocation methods
    * reserve variability calculations
    * Extreme value theory
    * Copulas
    * ICAS, ECR, ECA,...
    * GLM
    * Monte Carlo as opposed to stratified sampling
    * ...

    Thanks for that opinion.

    If anybody else has any other ideas of what should and should not be included in Subject ST3 (or SA3), then do comment. The Profession is currently reviewing the Core Reading, and is willing to consider any sensible recommendations. There is another thread under SA3 Subject Discussions too, along similar lines.
