Value of unemployed tax credits

Hello. I am unemployed :-( :( , and still doing the exams for fun until...and I have to consider the following:
Is it worth me spending £3.70 bus fare each fortnight to sign on just to receive my National Insurance Credits which will, I presume, contribute to some state pension? (I do not get any Jobseekers allowance)

How does this vary with age and how much should I spend if I were age 30, 40 and 50 with standard mortality for UK males?

Obviously I know nothing about SA4 or I presume that I could work it out myself (assuming standard UK mortality).
