Using the Tables over the calculator

Hi!

I prefer to use the numbers from the tables rather than the calculator whenever possible, and I've noticed recently that the final answer using the numbers from the table could vary by quite a lot some times.

Could some one please let me know whether I'm going to be penelised for using the tables?

Almost every examiner's report contains something like this:

"Please note that different answers may be obtained to those shown in these solutions depending on whether figures obtained from tables or from calculators are used in the calculations but candidates are not penalised for this. However, candidates may be penalised where excessive rounding has been used or where insufficient working is shown."

Moral: make sure that difference relates to use of tables rather than calculator only and is not due to unnecessary rounding.
