Hello,

I am struggling to understand how we get the transition rates as obtained in the solutions manual:
from 0 to 1 = 3B ,empty spaces
and from 1 to 2 =2B

I would have expected those transition rates to be just B.

Please assist.

State 0 means the car park is full, ie there are 3 cars, each with a force of leaving of B. The total force from state 0 to state 1 is the total force of leaving for all 3 cars combined, ie 3B.

Likewise, if there are 2 parked cars each with a force of leaving of B, then the force from state 1 (2 parked cars) to state 2 (1 parked car) is 2B.

Thank you. Totally makes sense. Hadn't thought of it that way
