Can somebody explain to me how to work out the expected values Interval 0 0.02m 0.14m 0.34m 0.34m 0.14m 0.02m 0 as displayed on page 33 of chapter 12 of the course note.

I noticed that the coefficient of m values are not the same for other solution from other question that i have seen. So can anybody help please.

    Hi maryam,

Use page 160 of the Tables (or NORMSDIST in Excel if you're at work)

    Phi(2) - Phi(1) = 0.97725 - 0.84134 = 0.13591

So, the prob that a N(0,1) value is between 1 and 2 is 0.13591

If you have m deviations Zx then you would expect 13.591% of them to lie between 1 and 2.

    Similar for all the others,

    Good luck!
    John
