ST5 Starting Point

Hi,

I just wrote CA1 in September and though am not sure of passing it, I would like to start preparing for ST5 and ST2 in April. What are the major challenges that could come my way as I prepare for ST5 and also how is ST5 compared to CA1?

ST5 prep

Hi, I hope you get CA1. ST5 is quite like CA1 in many ways:
there are a lot of bookwork regurg questions, particularly in the early part of the course. These require you to memorise large chunks of core reading, and flashcards, or acronyms can be very useful. This is something that you can get started with even if you are not sure whether you have got CA1.
There are plenty of application questions which look similar to CA1.

But

There are lots of valuation questions and performance calc questions that require specific technique and good calcultor skills (not much of that in CA1).
There are higher skills questions that require you to be up to date with the financial press. So you need to start reading the papers on Eurozone crises, debt default and rescheduling, politics, .... This is not really required in CA1.

Hope this helps.
