    Hi,

I was working on question 10 of the September 2009 paper part (iii)(a) and didn't understand the wording fully.

Calculate an upper (one sided) 95% c.i.

does this mean that the c.i is on the right (upper) of the normal distribution graph and the 5% tail will be on the left?

it goes on to say of the form (0, L) for theta

which suggests that the c.i. is on the left starting from 0 going to L and the 5% tail would be on the right.

Any help to clear this up will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Salil

No - it's the other way round - hence the question then saying (0, L).

Easiest way to think about this is to put in both 5% values and see which gives the biggest end point for \( \theta \). This would then be the upper value.
