How do you get the average duration of each visit
Solution implies that it's equal to the total number of transitions out of a state i divided by total time spent in the state i

    Hi,

According to the solution it is lambdaA=(60+45)/35=3 i.e. (60+45) is total no. transitions out of state A divided by 35 viz the total waiting time in state A.
Similarly for state B and C.

    All the best!

    \( average duration of each visit out of state 'i'=\frac{total~time~spent~in~state~i}{total~number~ of~ transitions~ out ~of~ a~ state ~i} \)

    Solution implies the same.
Note:-\( \hat \lambda_i \) is inverse of average duration of each visit out of state 'i'.
