so what did you think? I thought it was a fair paper..... joking of course... anyone wish to hazard a guess as to what might appear this sitting!? the recent papers have certainly tried to keep up with all the new regulations.....e.g. SFO, IAS (April 07) - I guess its the million dollar question...the other one being 'do I bother to learn the Myners principles because I really cant be bothered!?'.... ..I'm still gob smacked they asked about those for a DC scheme at one sitting
I thought the paper was way too long. I ran out of time....again! I'm never going to pass this exam and it's not because I don't know what I'm doing. I'm perfectly capable of doing an FRS17 calculation at work, but we were only given about 30mins to do a job I'd spend about an hour on at work! What did other people think?
agree with the last post - started on the frs17 calcs and went down a blind alley running way over time in the process which meant the rest of the exam was just a sprint to the finish line......any exam technique goes out the window...... ...ive moved into the life sector now so unless i've passed I'll def think about sitting another SA subject good luck to those who sat
i thot i was the only dumb person who messed up the accounting question! and fraggle - please don't say you'll never pass this exam - although i also feel that - i wonder how many ppl will switch to other SA subjects?
Is switching SA subjects actually an option for most people? If you work predominantly in pensions then you do SA4 and would be at a serious disadvantage to do anything else. I can't imagine a non-pensions specialist having anything other than an outside chance. Obviously if you switch practice areas then OK, but otherwise a non-starter surely? As for this paper - which I didn't sit - it seemed fair enough in the context of recent papers. However I would not have liked Q1 - restricting to 4 risk areas was nasty, I would have preferred to talk generally - I imagine if you don't discuss the 4 specific areas that the examiners are thinking of then you will probably lose a lot of marks. Good luck anyway, perseverance is the key.
