    Question

Which recent old era subject questions are relevant to Subject SA2?

    Answer

Nearly all the old Subject 402 questions are relevant and worth attempting. The exceptions relate to health products, which are now covered by Subjects ST1 and SA1.

The difference between the style of the exams for Subject 402 and SA2 is that the Subject SA2 exam consists of a paper containing just one to four long questions (and normally two), but the Subject 402 exam additionally had a paper containing around eight shorter questions.

Therefore, the old Subject 402 Paper 2 questions will be most relevant but Paper 1 questions are also worth attempting since they will help develop understanding and could easily be used to form part of a longer question for Subject SA2.

    Question

In Subject ST2, there are have been numerical questions on various topics (asset shares, surplus distribution, unit pricing, embedded values, surrender values and other alterations, and the cost of guarantees). Do I need to know about these for Subject SA2?

    Answer

Theoretically, all of the current Subject ST2 topics are examinable in Subject SA2. A well-prepared student should be familiar with this material. However, as Subject SA2 is examining the topic of life insurance at a much higher level, we think it unlikely that any question would require in-depth knowledge of the calculations needed for Subject ST2.
