Hi I'm a trainee GI actuary. I'm working on a project that requires a good high-level understanding of UK pensions law/regulation; not specialist actuarial knowledge. Can anyone recommend good reading material? The reading list of the Profession's website is all a bit actuarial. Might it be worth buying some core reading and revision cards? (The first 8 chapters of ST8 are not actuarial and provide a good high level introduction to GI) Many thanks Jon
Hi Jon This is a tricky one, as obviously the SA4 course and Core Reading is designed with UK pensions actuaries in mind. The introductory chapter of the SA4 course notes gives a brief overview of pensions legislation, so this may be worth a read. Chapters 2-4 discuss the parties involved, their needs and objectives, and give a bit more detail on UK pensions regulation. Failing that, some wider reading may be helpful. We have our "Topical Issues in Pensions" document that helps SA4 students follow recent developments in pensions. Within this, there are links to some very useful websites, a particularly useful tool for you may be the Pensions Regulator's website (particularly the Trustee toolkit) . If anyone else has any other recommendations for Jon, please do reply to this thread. I hope that this is helpful. Best wishes Stuart Underwood
Thanks Stuart. The topical issues document is very helpful. I have also found the UK Pensions Law Handbook useful. Any other suggestions much appreciated. Jon
