Q7.2 chapter 7

    hi,

    in chapter 7 question 7.2, how did we arrive to the fact that S can take the values of 0,1,2,3,4 ?

    any help shall be appreciated!

    Work through the different combinations of 0, 1 and 2 claims each of amounts 1 and 2.

    N=0 -> S=0
    X1=1 -> S=1
    (X1=2) or (X1=1 and X2=1) -> S=2
    (X1=1 and X2=2) or (X1=2 and X2=1) -> S=3
    (X1=2 and X2=2) -> S=4

    So, S={0,1,2,3,4}

    Don't forget to also include the value of N in each combination. :)

    eg N=1 and (X1=2) or N=2 and (X1=1 and X2=1)
