Why can't you just use the cdf direclty here?

ie L(lamda) = P(x<200)^(3)P(x>200)^(47)

??

Sorry. I'm still confused as to why my approach is wrong. The model answer finds MLE of lambda and then uses this to calculate mu.

47 have a lifetime greater than 200 days and 3 less. So why can't we use the CDF of the exponential distibution directly? My approach must be wrong as I get a negative answer, but why?

oops.. my aproach does work.. must have got my sums wrong!
