Hi I am really struggling with setting up the model for this project it feels like I need to go back and revise the whole CT course. Under exam time pressure I don't think I will be able to move on quickly enough if a life insurance or pensions question comes up.

Is anyone else having the same problem recalling all the information from the CT exams ? Even with a copy of the core reading I am still having trouble.

I just can't see how 20 hours study time is adequate for this course.

    thanks

This is exactly what I'm thinking right now about L3. Has anyone got any advice? When do they give us the section of core reading relevant to the exam? I'm hoping we will have enough time to revise this core reading before the exam itself? I'm writing the online exam by the way but I guess that won't make a difference to any responses..

I'm going to practise these exam type papers because this is beginning to scare me - I think I would have found L3 tough to lay out and finish without a struggle, especially as I don't work in Life... Got till 26 June. Anyone got any other ideas?

I work in non-life and haven't touched the CTs for ages. Out of interest I took a glance at the paper. My initial thought is that you're not actually being asked to recall very much:

    • You need to understand discounting, which is not specific to any actuarial field.
    • You need to remember what a whole life assurance and term assurance are.
    • You need to remember some basic notation, specifically \(\ell_x\) so you can understand the layout of the data they give you.
    • Some additional notation may be helpful, but not essential, e.g. \(p_x\), \(q_x\), \(\vphantom{p}_{10} p_x\), \(v\), \(A_x\), \(A_{x:10}^1\). You can manage perfectly well without these.
Despite the fact that some of the CA2 projects can seem a bit unfamiliar and have copious amounts of Core Reading attached, they are designed to be accessible without much in the way of specialist knowledge. Also remember that if there are a few bits of information that you can't recall, you can ask the supervisor to explain them to you.
