problem 11.9 from course notes

Hello,

The problem 11.9 from the course notes asks to list the data required for the exact calculation of the central exposed to risk.

The solution lists amongst the list: reason for leaving the investigation.

But, in chapter 11, we are thought that: "The central exposed to risk is independent of the cause of exit under consideration."

Then, why the solution to problem 11.9 mentions that the reason for leaving the investigation is data necessary to calculate the central exposed to risk?

Many thanks

mmm... extremely good point. You are right, we don't need to know the reason for exit to work out just the Exc. Just remember to write it down anyway, you're not going to get negatively marked for this because:

a) it's in the solutions to past exam questions!
b) we would never conduct a mortality investigation without recording whether the life was censored or died. Otherwise, sure we could calculate Exc exactly, but it would be useless to us unless we knew how many people died!

Good luck!
John
