Principle of correspondence

    Can anyone explain in simple language, what is principle of correspondence?

    There's no point dividing the number of deaths on Tuesday by the number of people in the room on Monday.
    We want to divide the number of deaths on Tuesday by the number of people in the room on Tuesday.
    So, we have the number of deaths on Tuesday. The Principle of correspondence makes sure that the denominator is the number of people in the room on Tuesday.
