Hi all, Could I clarify why we can't obtain the transition matrix from the generator matrix directly? Like from state 1 to 2, the probability would be 2/3? Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello 2/3 is the probability of going to State 2 when we leave State 1, regardless of when that may occur. However, in this question we want the transition probabilities after 1 unit of time, eg the probability that we are in State 2 after 1 unit of time given we start in State 1. Hope this helps! Andy
