Percentage points of chi square test in Hypothesis testing

Discussion in 'CT3' started by Dikshay Ramnani, Apr 10, 2015.

  1. On page 31 in example, 5% point of chi square is taken to compare test statistic.

On page 55 in solution 12.17 also, 5% point is taken.

On page 56 in solution 12.18, 0.5% point is taken.

On page 58 in solution 12.19, I am not able to understand last para of the solution that is how one sided test is carried out. I think here 10% point is used for one-sided test.

Please tell me how to decide %points for chi square test ?

    Thanks in advance

not 10%, 90%(that is p-value not rejection criteria) then they said it cannot be rejected even at 90%
there is no rule but safe choice might be size=5%

  3. If generally size 5% is used, why in solution 12.18 page 56 0.5% point is taken ?

In question 12.19, if 90% is p-value, then there should also be an alternative rejection criteria for it as there in example on page 31 they have indicated both methods taking p-value and also by taking %point. Please tell me rejection criteria for this.

    Thanks in advance

Whenever not mentioned I consider rejection criteria 5%, as its a safe choice.
Please don't think as its a rule... & If someone tests with 1% or less. That means he is trying to show strongly if against.
