Passing the exams

    Hi,

In order to pass ST7, how much are we expected to score out of a hundred? Does the passing mark depend only on the overall mark obtained for the paper or are we expected to pass every question in the paper (as in achieving a certain percentage of marks for each question)?

Are the raw marks scaled before producing the final marks?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi Purple,

Unfortunately, the examiners don't publish or disclose pass marks and so it's impossible to say how many marks you need to score in order to pass. It would probably be around the order of 50% though, as a rough estimate for an ST subject. Just aim to get as many as possible :) .

I would expect that the pass/fail decision is based on your overall score rather than on a requirement to pass each and every question. However, if your score is low on some of the questions then it will make it much more difficult to pass the overall exam.

There are always rogue qns cropping up where everyone does poorly, but if you can get the odd extra mark on it yet still be a low scorer thereon, it can help if overall you are borderline.

But its sound advice to give each qn your best shot rather than distract yourself with counting.
