How is the pass determined for this exam? Do we need to score over the pass rate on both papers?
 
Check out the Institute's document called "A guide to CA2 Model documentation, analysis and reporting". It will tell you everything you need to know. Specifically, in answer to your question it says:

The CA2 examiners will assess a candidate’s overall performance over both papers. A candidate, therefore, does not have to produce a pass standard for each separate paper, but does need to demonstrate a pass standard overall
