Outliers

Hi Acted Tutors and other students with the Acted notes:

In the Acted example project, the student's thought process included the apparent fact that there were no outliers. I can't remember any method to calculate outliers as such from the CT series - I'm just aware that some people like to use (if I'm not mistaken)

3rd quartile + 3*interquartile range
1st quartile - 3*interquartile range

If you use this, there are a couple claims in the data that would be considered outliers. Are they not considered outliers because the claim sizes "progress" in such a way that, to the eye, these appear believable? In other words, is it just a subjective opinion that has been expressed by the student?

I can't quite remember that part of the notes either, but doing that type of calculation seems sensible.

From when I sat CA2, I think the most important thing is to do something sensible and explain it clearly. You'll have the CT notes available too so you can always look something up if you feel the need.
