Gumbel distribution is characterised by light tails that fall off exponentially. Solution 20.5 does not mention applications for this particular dist type. What is it applied for in practice?
As an example off the top of my head, something where there is small, but non-zero probability in both tails, eg modelling the distribution of rainfall where there is the possibility of drought or flood.
