log likelihood

    I am not able to understand how this came of . Would someone help me in this?

    This follows from the expression for the likelihood given on page 15 of the chapter (the one that is the product from j = 1 to k of terms involving lambda j).

    You take logs of that expression and use the log laws:

    log(abc) = log(a) + log(b) + log(c)
    log(a^b) = b*log(a)
