I'm a massive James Bond fan!!

The newer ones usually come out around the end of November every other year which is my birthday so we go to see them as soon as they come out.
I've been so disappointed with this farce about who is going to play the next Bond, and with how long it has taken them to get a new one out. I'm pretty sure they've broken their '1 every two years' trend :(
I heard somewhere that the rights were now owned by someone else (Sony?). Is this why there are problems?

I hope they sort things out. Bond is an institution!!

Has anyone seen Die Another Day out on TV or DVD yet? I know they always keep Bond back longer than usual, but I'm sure I can't find it anywhere...

gah! Why didn't someone start this thread 4 days ago...!!

I definitely think they should have kept Pierce Brosnan on...I think he's a great Bond.

Do you know if John Cleese is going to be the permanent Q replacement? I think he's fantastic...but doesn't really fit into the Bond humour I think...

John Cleese did play q well in die another day

    the underground scene was funny

"it shoudl take u only a couple of hours to shoot through the manual"

"Just took a couple of seconds Q"

    "I WISH I COULD MAKE U VANISH"

i think plays q well and fits humour well

waht s ur fav one liner in the series?

There are so many witty one-liners but most of them rely on visual gags that wouldn't work well here.

I'm going to have to go with:

"Do you expect me to talk?"; "No Mr Bond...I expect you to die!".
    It's a classic...

As I understand, in the new bond, there are going to be no gadgets and no John Cleese.
The idea is to go back to a younger, grittier bond without all the trimmings and stuff.
Dunno if its a good idea cause most people like bond cause of the gadgets - although the invisible car thing was dumb.

    well
we need some vinmtage bond of old so that is a good thing

    agree with invisible car
some of pearces filnms are too oevr the top action/gadget wise

    meh, I'm not sure.
Personally I like all the James Bond gadgets. I know that they were perhaps entering the realms of the farcical with the invisible car and X-Ray glasses...but James Bond has always been about the laser watch, dynamite pen and other such gadgets.

I'd agree with dropping John Cleese for the reason I mentioned above. He's one of my favourite comedians, but just doesn't quite fit right into Bond.

I think the real key is the story...they always used to be based around World Wars or the Cold-war. Now that we aren't fighting the Germans or Russians any more (at least not that I'm aware of) they have kind-of run out of a role for James, and have turned him into more of a Jack Bauer or someone from Spooks, and less of a 'spy'. And as Triple-X pointed out in it's opening sequence having a suave soffisticated spy in a dinner-jacket isn't conducive to blending in when your enemy is a terrorist cell in an underground club...

They need to somehow come up with an enemy and a life-threatening situation which we can relate to reality a little bit more...but where James can still work the casinos, bars and high-life where he blends in...
    Suggestions on a postcard...

    a real life enemy

    well soecifically for us actuaries

an evil actuarial consultancy has soem evil partners who are similar to SPECTRE (like in teh connery scenes) . The head is called Number 1 (Blofeld) , is bold, strokes a pussy cat and speaks with a wierd accent about hwo he wants to hold all life insurers to ransom in his quest to dsominate the msarket for acturial services! he has evil henchman working for him!
our james bond is an actuary working for GAD where the givt actuary has a similar role to M and secret agent james bond FIA must save the day! he is armed gadgets can speak several languyages or recite all the guidance notes....
who would our suarve sophiticated actuary seduce on his adventures? lol

a little far fetched but maybe u have ideas along a similar actuarial plot LOL

I've heard that they are going to announce the new James Bond today.

And I've also heard that apparently it is going to be Daniel Craig (Layer Cake)...but it's just a rumour at the moment.

    Brosnan forever!

    So was it him then?

Still think they were absolutely mad to get rid of Brosnan - I'm sorry Connery fans - but he WAS bond - it's stupid just changing him for the sake of it - what is this - doctor who or something!

I think Brosnan's problem was that they'd run out of Flemming novels (though given the blatant sexism that's possibly good) - and the made up ones were lacking that essential bond flavour. You know what I mean - meet the baddy early on and size each other up - then bring in all those guys later to storm the evil boss's lair later while he escapes on some buggy or other and bond chases him down....it's a classic!

Wait - I could write this!

yep confirmed now is new james bond daniel craig or the first james BLond..

bobba the jobba - yes pearce was no doubt good but he got too emotional at times eg in tomorrow never dies with paris carver and after he kills electra in the world is not enough ..... bind cannot be emotional he must be steely

but i think getting riod of brosnasn was bad idea he had room for one more ..they said her was too old but hes only 52 and moore was 58 in AVTAK.

According to the website they wish to return to a "grittier more dark James Bond, with more character and less gadgets".

While I applaud them trying to make the films less of a comic farce and more of an action film, I really hope they don't ruin the 'James Bond' image.
There are already enough films out there that are gritty and hard-hitting, and if we wanted to see one they'd be one along within the month...but James Bond is/was unique. Perhaps it had let the humour slip further into the filth recently, and perhaps the invisible car was a little far-fetched, but still, the classic James Bond of old had a certain quality that couldn't be found elsewhere. The witty one-liners were a hint at the style with which he went about his business, and the gadgets are actaully more realistic than you may imagine, with the military pioneering a very large number of our now common technical gadgets (Internet, GPRS etc)

I'm hoping that they don't kill the James Bond genre by making it like every other 'action' film. While I have no doubt that it will be a good film (Casino Royale was supposed to be the best of the books), we are already saturated with enough 'Blockbusters' from Hollywood, so unless it can stand out from it's peers it will slowly lose it's appeal. Although I frequented the cinema in recent student years it now is becoming less often, but James Bond is something I used to save up to see when I was younger, and it would still be something I'd go out of my way to see now I'm older. It's not easy making something consistantly unique...but they've done a reasonable job so far!!

without doubt Casino royale will be a major shift away from the action packed briosnan films

my only concern about this film is that James bond falls in love with the girl vesper - apparently he does this in the book - falling in love is not what bond is about - and i hope trhat teh film does not give unude attention to bond falling in love

i think craig has got that rugged look (although i woudl have preferred brosnan to stay ) which can give bond an edge .. however, like some of the media, i have to say - and i do not have anything against blondes in general - it is difficult to see a "blonde" bond and i wish he would dye his hair brown for the film just like roger moore did....

hopefully it is the end of the invisible cars!!!!
