Could someone please tell me what the basic difference between these 2 things are? The notes only seem to indicate that one refers to surgical expenses(MME) and hospital cash refers to benefits like optometry etc. Thank you!
I think the clue is in the word "major". Major medical expenses provides a fixed lump sum for specified surgical procedures, whereas cash plans often have fairly small claim amounts (for relatively minor treatments/procedures). Based on this, I'd have thought that claims experience is likely to differ considerably for the two classes: MME - low claim frequency, moderate claim amounts (hundreds or thousands of pounds) HCPs - high claim frequency, small claim amounts (tens of pounds). Also, according to the Core Reading, MME claim amounts are a specified lump sum that is intended to cover the costs of the operation (and many of the associated costs), whereas HCPs may only cover a % of the costs.
