Hi guys,I need a bit of clarification a few issues.Suppose the employer takes out a one year group IP policy and a valid claim occurs within the year.So after the deferment period, will payments will be made to claimant till the end of the year, irresespective of whether they are still incapacitated? If so,what happens if the employer renews the policy. Will the claimant have to go through another deferment period before payment?

    I think:

    - the employee would only go through ONE deferred period for each continuous period of incapacity

    - the claim payments would continue as long as the employee is sick (regardless of whether this is before or after the end of the period of cover) and only stop when the employee returned to work / died / reached the termination age under the policy (eg 65).

So, the insurer would be liable for ongoing claims even after the company has renewed its cover (which may even be with another insurer).
