general query about run off triangles

    chapter 15 pg 13 ... "we would normally expect origin years to be more developed as they get older..."

    When do we say that a year in a triangle is more (or less) developed? as in.. is it called more developed if more number of claims are settled or reported or is there any other criteria?

    I guess it depends what kind of triangle you're looking at (e.g. a claims reported triangle, or a claims paid triangle etc). It's just saying that older origin years will usually be more developed, i.e. nearer their ultimate position.

    This is really just stating the obvious (although I think it goes on to give some examples of situations where this doesn't apply), so I wouldn't over-think this statement.
