In the core reading, the heading "bond indices" covers - ftse gilts index series - ftse global, iboxx and other international bond index series - credit derivative indices My questions are: 1) whether the ftse gilts index series only covers UK gilts? How many securities does it cover? 2) does the ftse global index encompass the ftse gilts index series? 3) just to clarify that credit derivative indices are entirely different from bond indices?! Thanks
The term gilt means UK government bonds (from the days when UK securities were literally gilt-edged), so non-UK gilts are a contradiction in terms. Specifications for the index can be found here: http://www.ftse.com/Indices/FTSE_UK_Gilts_Indices/index.jsp
