Duplicate covers

I've heard there can be overlap in cover between household and travel insurance policies. Which covers can be duplicated? (I'm guessing cover for damage to or loss of personal possessions is one such cover.) And is it actually possible for a customer to do anything about this in practice or are the overlapping covers included in both policies as standard i.e. not optional?

Possessions away from the home - also called all risks

You are correct. I believe that it is usually only those possessions which are covered away from home (almost always as an optional extension to a UK household contents policy) which can be duplicated by a travel policy.

Obviously individual items may have this type of all risks cover eg mobile
telephones, spectacles etc. and even those covered under purchase protection eg pruchased using certain credit cards within say 90 days may be insured.

I am not sure whether health cover can be duplicated.

Hope this helps.
