Doubt over rounding off answers

Hi all,

I have a slight doubt over rounding off answers. Is it alright if we round off answers to 4 or 5 SF, or do we need to keep the decimals also which might appear after the 4th or 5th significant figure?

Thanks for assistance!

Regards,
Shyam

Rounding off to 5 SF any 5 nos before or after decimals that are significant.
significant figures should be started to be counted from first non zero no.
zeros after decimal digits are significant if there are non zero nos after them
for example in a no 40.057 if rounded off to 4SF ans would be 40.06.

Varsha, thank you for the reply but my doubt still holds.

What i wish to know is whether it would be fine if we completely round off numbers to 4 or 5 SF and leave them or do we need to keep the digits that appear after the decimal?
For an illustration,

If I get an answer of 24575.589, then would it be alright to give the final answer as 24576, as it is 5 SF or do I need to include the .589 as well?

Thanks once again!

Regards,
Shyam
