Difference between net of reinsurance reserve and outwards reinsurance

    Are outwards Reinsurance reserve and net of reinsurance reserve different?

    Yes they are different.

    The outwards reinsurance reserve is the amount you expect to recover from your reinsurers whereas the net of reinsurance reserve is the amount you need to hold after allowing for reinsurance recoveries.

    In other words, gross - ceded = net.
