Poisson Process Derivation - PG 28 to 35

Is derivation of Poisson process required as per exam prospective or is it only given in book to understand?

I mean should we be prepared for derivation in exam??
In syllabus objective this is given that we should make a note of 3 characteristics of Poisson:
1. Distribution of waiting time between two events
2. Distribution of process increment
3. Behavior of process over infinitesimal time interval

Please suggest and also let us know if there is any other document to understand this process with solved examples.
Any other information and suggestions are appreciated in advance.
Regards,
Sunil

In the IFoA exams they have only tested calculating probabilities for the number of events or the waiting time.
It is unlikely to be asked as a proof however you can prove the waiting time has an exponential distribution quite quickly using the alternative proof given on p15 of Chapter 4.
I have to be honest - I've not seen a clearer derivation of the Poisson process in any other stats textbook.
