The infant mortality is high due to the fact that some babies don't survive after birth (sad but true). So in the graph you can see that the curve starts from above 0, and not 0(on the y axis). In the first few years, approximately till 20 years, mortality is quite low. Kids do survive that period. So the graph sees a fall and can be seen touching the x axis in this period. Then in the 20s, there is an accidental hump. This is because of the road accidents that happen. This is visible in the sudden jump in the graph. After this, mortality starts to rise. Deaths occur as age continues. The graph experiences a gradual rise over the ages. And it reaches high point at age 80. Most people die in the age range 75-80. After this, the rate of death starts to fall. There is a decline in mortality and is also visible in the graph.
