CP2 Tutorial worthwhile & online vs in-person?

Hi,
Plan to sit CP2 in next exam sitting but unsure whether:

Q1 - Worthwhile devoting a day to a CP2 tutorial -what is covered and is it beneficial for actual exam performance? [The Study Guide's description is typically vague &unhelpful: "Our tutorials are specifically designed to develop the knowledge that you will acquire from the course material into the higher-level understanding that is needed to pass the exam"]
Q2 - Is it very screen-based and so less benefit attending in-person vs online?
Thanks in advance

Hi Bill,

As a tutor I am probably biased, but I think the CP2 tutorial is useful! It builds on the information in the CP2 Course Notes and the IFoA's guide to CP2, giving you a better idea of what the examiners are looking for and how to approach the exam. You will also have the opportunity to discuss any questions / concerns about the exam with a tutor. We cover things like:
  • The different elements of the two papers (spreadsheet, audit trail, summary)
  • Example questions for Paper 1 and Paper 2
  • What the examiners are looking for in terms of content, style, etc - this includes looking at example marking schedules
  • Exam technique, eg approach for documenting spreadsheets, time management, what to do if you get a tricky question.
The tutorial is fairly screen-based - we switch between talking through slides (shared from the tutor's screen) and exercises in Excel and Word. Attending online means you have the benefit of having the tutorial recordings, although face-to-face can make it easier for the tutor to see and comment on your work as they can see your laptop screen. So the in-person vs online decision is usually down to personal preference.

I hope that's helpful!

Lucy

Thanks very much Lucy -that is really helpful -will go for an in-person one (as greatly value the feedback/comments on attempted questions during the tutorial).
