In part (iii) when matrix M is substituted with a's and b's, what happened to the (t-s) terms?

 

The ones in the M matrix have cancelled with the ones in the denominator of the matrix just to the left of M. This leaves the ones in the numerator of the matrix just to the left of M, which stay there right through to the end.
