Hello. I would like to apologize if this is offensive. Free feel to delete my post if I’m not allowed to share this issue. I’m a first semester Actuarial Science student. I do not know too much about the actuarial profession, but I’m excited to learn. In university, the lecturers and my classmates are lovely. I go on forums, particularly Reddit to be a part of the community. There I see the pack-mentality within the senior actuaries. A beginner asks a question, they are belittled. No senior calls out the unprofessionalism. A fellow beginner speaks up, the seniors taunt them with “you won’t survive this industry”, “your question is stupid, “it’s a small community, watch what you speak”, etc. Is this typically the culture?
Yes, such a culture would mean that newbies would never learn anything, which would lead to more mistakes. So it's bad management and if you find such a team - then that team is dysfunctional.
