Hi tutors, please bear with me as I ask as many questions as I can... Sorry for the inconvenience.

I was just wondering about the soln. to 3.18 in chapt. 3. It is saying that 8/31 is the 3rd entry in the row vector obtained by post-multiplying the initial distr. by P^3? I used (0,1,1) as the initial distribution, and I didn't get 8/31.

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks much.

Hi (and Happy New Year!)
In part (ii)(c) the initial conditions are given as 14/31, 9/31, and 8/31, not as 0,1,1.??. So if you multiply (14/31, 9/31, 8/31) to P3 then you do indeed get 8/31 (the solution shows the product of the initial row vector and the third column of the P3 matrix - which is all that's needed to give the required answer).
Is that OK?
