Just discovered this while talking with one of my colleagues here at work - this was on the SP7 forum... just sharing, it seems like it can be helpful!!!

Pretty much what this course encourages you to do... become an acronym/mnemonic library and an excellent speed writer.
Questionable, this method of examination.

It’s not even questionable. It’s a complete waste of time. Who decided this was a competency which actuaries are required to have?

What competencies do you think they should have - honest question?

How about the same as required by the Greeks or Slovenians to become actuaries, as they're eligible for 'Gold Standard' IFoA Fellowship.

I think Almost there sums it up nicely. A university education will do. What more do you realistically need? Why do the IFOA now say that the chartered actuary is sufficient? Why did the Kingman Review tell the IFOA to effectively reduce their examination requirements? Memorizing mnemonics is just not a useful skill. The education system was and still is completely irrelevant and generally not required. The only reason it remains in existence is to support the well being of those that work at ACTED and the IFOA
