Is it possible to pass this exam if you don't complete the model in paper 1?
 
Short answer: yes.

Slightly longer answer: there are lots of components to the CA2 assessment, and so having a finished model in paper 1 isn't absolutely necessary. Remember that the subject focuses on model documentation, analysis and reporting rather than on building amazing spreadsheets. Whilst you'll need a reasonably good model in paper 1 so that you can write a great audit trail, getting the correct final answer isn't a requirement for passing.
