Freedom to award discretionary marks for points that are not in the marking schedule

Can the markers do this?
There is a broad option of answers that could be answered to many questions and sometimes the examiner's report and my answer aren't exactly the same even though my answer is also correct.

Yes is probably the best answer here. Although the examiners try to get all the relevant points into the examiners report before they start to process all the scripts, so that there is less need to do this. It tends to lead to an inconsistent marking, which is as bad as a wrong schedule! So what tends to happen is that your point needs to be "saying the same thing in a different way" to get the points on the schedule. But if it is correct, and NOT the same as a schedule point, then the examiner is free to award a mark here or there. A bit woolly, but I hope this helps.
