Purpose
ActEd's face-to-face and live online tutorials have been designed by our experienced team of tutors to help make sure that you prepare effectively for the exams. They aim to build and consolidate your knowledge and understanding of the principles covered by the course. Time spent on an ActEd tutorial will be amongst your most productive study time.
Contents
ActEd's interactive tutorials are challenging and rewarding. Your tutor will take you through important questions, clarify key concepts, and give you the motivation to succeed. They will help you to develop your higher-level understanding and exam technique in an enjoyable environment.
Your tutor will expect you to have read the relevant parts of the Course Notes before the tutorial and to work hard on the day.

Unless otherwise stated (above), teaching days typically start between 9am and 10am, and finish between 4:30pm and 5pm (UK time).
If you might need to change your plans in the light of your exam results or exemptions gained, then we'd recommend that you apply for a late-starting Regular Tutorial or a Block Tutorial rather than a standard Regular Tutorial.
Although we cannot guarantee any maximum group size, we usually aim for at most 12 on face-to-face tutorials and 14 on most live online tutorials.
Students attending a Regular or Block Tutorial (delivered face-to-face or live online) in the same session may purchase the Online Classroom at a significantly reduced cost.
Tutorial schedule and application process
Details of all our current provisional and/or confirmed courses, together with full listings of dates, locations and finalisation dates can be viewed in our Tutorial Bulletin.
Numbers will be limited and so to maximise your chance of getting a place we encourage early applications.
You will be able to view provisional venues and see an indication of the number of spaces available on each course on our e-store.
The Tutorial Bulletin describes the tutorial application process. You are advised to apply early as tutorials often book up very quickly.

Purpose
The Online Classroom (OC) is an exciting approach to studying for the actuarial exams. It acts as either a valuable add-on to a tutorial (face-to-face or live online) or a great alternative to a tutorial, particularly if you're not based in the UK or near a tutorial venue.
Contents
At the heart of the OC in each subject is a comprehensive, easily-searched collection of tutorial units. These are a mix of:
- teaching units, helping you to really get to grips with the course material, and
- guided questions, enabling you to learn the most efficient ways to answer questions and avoid common exam pitfalls.
An exception is the Subject SA1 mini-Online Classroom, which does not cover the whole Subject SA1 course.

Purpose
The mini-Online Classroom may be of particular interest to students who are unable to attend the SA1 block tutorial or who are retaking the exam.
Contents
The mini-Online Classroom for Subject SA1 includes 28 video units, a question handout and solutions pack. There is also a dedicated SA1 mini-Online Classroom forum which is monitored by ActEd tutors.
The SA1 mini-Online Classroom has been produced primarily using units from the SA2 Online Classroom. The units in the mini-SA1 Online Classroom as the same as those in the SA2 Online Classroom. Therefore, they may refer to 'life insurance' or products that are less relevant to SA1 (such as with-profits products). However, all the units cover material that is included within SA1 where there is significant overlap between the Core Reading for subjects SA1 and SA2.
- Solvency II
- Professional standards and guidance
- Profit reporting
- Embedded value
- Capital management.
The SA1 mini-Online Classroom also includes subject specific material on the funding of healthcare.
- Product design
- Reinsurance
- Risk
- Risk management.
Please note that this mini-Online Classroom does not cover the whole SA1 course. In particular, areas that are not covered include: product specific details; assessing, recommending and implications of strategies; analysis of experience. There is no intention at this time to expand the SA1 mini-Online Classroom to include these areas.
Tutorial Bulletin
Purpose
The Tutorial Bulletin provides detailed information on:
- the tutorials scheduled for the current session, ie those leading towards the April 2026 exams
- how to apply for a tutorial
- how tutorial places are allocated, and the associated finalisation dates.
It will enable you to identify what forms of tuition are relevant and available to you, and how to make an application to attend a tutorial.
Contents
You can download the latest Tutorial Bulletin here (updated 01 October 2025).
The Tutorial Bulletin is in Adobe Acrobat format, and you will need the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print it. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it here.
Timing your application for tuition
We appreciate that it may be tempting to wait until after results before deciding what to sit, but we strongly recommend that you commit to a subject early and start studying as soon as possible. There will only be a finite number of tutorial places available on the later-starting tutorials and we cannot always guarantee everyone a place.
Places on all tutorials are allocated on a first-come first-served basis and many become fully booked very quickly. You can still apply for tutorials after the finalisation date, but you should be aware that some are likely to be full by this stage.
