Marking services

ActEd's marking service aims to:
  • assess submissions against the relevant marking schedule - providing a total score, breakdown of marks awarded, and an overall grade
  • advise on exam skills which could have helped you achieve a higher score
  • provide specific advice to improve your chances of success in the exam, for example feedback on your understanding of the course material.

More information about our marking service and the benefits of marking is given in this Tutor Talk video.

ActEd can mark your attempts at any of the currently available versions of Assignments or Mock Exams. If you purchase marking for the current exam sitting but only have a previous year's version of the relevant Assignments or Mock Exam, then you can request a copy of the current version free of charge.

Our marking service is available in four different formats:

Marking service Applicable to
Series X Marking Series X Assignments
Series Y Marking Series Y Assignments (within PBOR )
Mock Exam Marking Mock Exam
Marking Vouchers Any of the above, plus Mock Exam 2 or Mock Exam 3 (in the Additional Mock Pack). Each voucher is valid for a single exam paper so, for example, two vouchers are required for each Mock Exam in Subjects CM1-2, CS1-2, CP1 and CP2, as these mocks each contain two papers.

Series Marking (X or Y) and Mock Exam Marking can each only be used for the specific subject for which they are purchased (eg Subject CM2) and for the current exam sitting. These forms of marking cannot be deferred to a later exam sitting.

Marking Vouchers are the flexible alternative to Series Marking and/or Mock Exam Marking. Vouchers are valid for four years from the date of purchase. They can be transferred between subjects and between students. They can be used, or refunded, at any time up to the expiry date. So, you may wish to choose Marking Vouchers over Series Marking if you require additional flexibility. Each voucher can be used to have one Assignment or Mock Exam paper marked. To have a Mock Exam marked in Subjects CM1-2, CS1-2, CP1 and CP2, each of which has two papers, you would need two vouchers. So, for these subjects, to have both Mock Exam 2 and Mock Exam 3 (ie the whole AMP) marked you would need to use four vouchers in total.

If you are sitting a subject for the first time, then we generally recommend purchasing Series X Marking (and Series Y Marking for the CM and CS Subjects). However, if you think you may change your study plans (eg in light of pending exam results), then we recommend that you use Marking Vouchers rather than Series Marking. This will give you much more flexibility should your plans change.

If you use Series Marking or Mock Exam Marking:
  • by submitting your script(s) in line with the recommended submission dates you will make steady progress
  • you must submit your scripts by the published final deadline dates, as any scripts submitted afterwards will not be marked.
If you use Marking Vouchers:
  • you can submit any script for marking at any time, irrespective of the final deadline dates, however, …
  • … you need to adhere to the explicit Marking Voucher deadlines in each exam sitting to ensure your script is returned before the date of the exam.

We encourage markers to return scripts quickly, but we would like you to be aware that scripts submitted around the time of a final deadline may have a significantly slower turnaround time than usual.

We typically provide full solutions with Assignments and the Mock Exam (either in print or via the The Hub for the computer-based exams). However, if you order Series X or Y Marking (or Mock Exam Marking) at the same time as you order the Series Assignments (or Mock Exam), you can choose whether or not to receive a copy of the solutions in advance, ie with the questions. If you choose not to receive them in advance, then you will be given access to them in The Hub when your marked script is returned to you (or following the final deadline date if you do not submit a script).

Detailed instructions on how to submit your script are in the Studying Subject courses in The Hub. Please read the instructions on the assignment or mock exam cover sheet before completing your assessment. Copies of cover sheets can be downloaded here.

Deadlines are provided below in PDF form but also as a .ics file which you can download and then import into your calendar.

Important

Please note that the deadlines are currently provisional awaiting confirmation of the April 2026 examination dates by the IFoA. The .ics files will be available for you to add the deadlines to your calendar once the deadlines have been finalised.

Your script will be marked electronically (eMarked). When it has been marked you will receive an email with details of how to download your script via a secure link. You can view your script online and/or print it out, whichever you prefer.

If you elected not to receive solutions at the same time as ordering the Mock Exam or Assignments, then you will also be able to view (or print) an electronic copy of the relevant solutions. Please note that scripts and solutions will be deleted after two sessions so if you want to keep copies then you must print them BEFORE they are deleted.

All scripts must be submitted for marking using a correctly completed cover sheet. If no cover sheet is supplied then we will not be able to process the script for marking, and we will have to contact you to obtain one, which will delay the marking of your script.

Two 2026 cover sheets are available below. Please download the relevant two-page Word document, complete all the necessary sections and add it to the beginning of your script.

We only accept the current version of assignments/mocks for marking, ie those published for the sessions leading to the 2026 exams . If you wish to submit your script for marking but only have an old version (in subjects with a one-to-one mapping to a new subject), then you can request the current assignments free of charge provided you have purchased the same paper in the same subject the previous year (ie sessions leading to the 2025 exams) and have purchased marking for the 2026 session.
