    v=856-1/2(119+23)-w=723

    Anyone can explain how to calculate v?

  2. v is your friend second only to x

    v is the amount of time spent in the healthy state.
    142 people (119+ 23) die. some at the start of the year some at the end of the year. if their deaths are uniformly distributed over the year ie chance of dieing now and... now are the same. (notice this would not be true for 2 dots, just kidding!) then on average they die half way thru the year. so they are in the dead state for 1/2 a year on average
    so dead state time =142*(1/2)= 71 years.
    total amount of time spent sick is 1588*14.25/365=62 years
    therefore
    Total time healthy = Total time - Total time sick -Total time dead
    =856 - 62 -71
    =723
    note this does not include amount of time watching tv, which is a vegitative state neither dead, sick and certainly not healthy.
