ct5 chapter 14

    hi,

    in chapter 14, there is an example of yougsville and oldsville.

    in the standardized mortality table for this example, how did we get 35000 for age 40 and 25000 for age 60, as given in page 33.

    also, how have the death mortality rates been arrived at?

    1) its just standard population at each age.
    2)death rates are from the population being studied ( rates for youngsville at each age)

    Standard population is given on page no 33 just before the Directly standardised mortality rate

    What I am asking is, whether anyone knows the calculation done to arrive at the 35000 or not?
    Like the 40000 at age 20 can be calculated (as done in the example following page 33, on page 35), what could be the calculation that has had been done to get that 35000 and 25000, as they aren't arriving by the method of calculation used to find that 40000.

    writing 40 is same as writing 40% of 100
    No need for calculation.
    Read the formula carefully. It says that what will be the Single figure index ( here directly standardise mor. rate) if we consider the standard population follows the mortality rates from the observed population/sample population.
