CP3 approach (2026 mock exam)

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the CP3 approach in the 2026 mock exam. My understanding is that in CP3 we should normally avoid bringing in our own prior knowledge and instead focus on clearly communicating the information provided in the exam paper and advance material.

However, I’m a bit confused about how this applies when the question asks about future implications. Should we only draw conclusions directly from what is stated or implied in the advance material, or is it acceptable to use some reasonable general/common knowledge to interpret possible future impacts?

For example, the treasurer’s report in the advance material described the situation as successful. If we are asked to discuss future implications, should we mainly extend what is suggested in the material, or is it appropriate to also mention possible risks or uncertainties even if they are not explicitly stated?

I also noticed that the model solution includes some analysis of the situation. Does this mean that we are expected (or at least allowed) to include some level of interpretation or judgement, as long as it is based on the information provided?

I’m trying to better understand how much independent analysis is appropriate in CP3.

Thanks!

Hi Chini,

You should generally only use information from the advance material / question and not bring in any prior knowledge. However, It is assumed that you understand the material across the earlier core subjects, including CP1, so you might be expected to interpret / draw some very limited conclusions from the data / information.

For example, in the case of the mock exam, identifying that certain risks have increased (given the information on the change in strategy) is appropriate ... particularly as the audience is worried about exposure to risk and has asked you to explain implications for the future.

Hope helpful
Michael
