    Hello,

Has anyone made acronyms for SP9? If so, it would be great if you could share it with me.

    Thank you,
    Kay

    Hi Kay

I've had a good trawl through my files and have dug out an old ST9 acronyms list, which I've updated for SP9.

Hope this is of some use to you and others?

    Many thanks
    Anna

The stages in model development seem to be a popular question, I used the following mnemonic:
    specify Purpose
    collect, group and modify Data
specify the Form - define parameters and variables
    specify the Period for cashflows
    Estimate parameters and correlations
    test the goodness of Fit
ensure all required Cashflows/outputs are produced
Run the model - stochastic or deterministic
    format the Output
    perform any Sensitivity testing

I'm sure a better acronym could be generated but using PDF (file type) PEF (... no justification) CROs (topical) was just about tenuous enough for me to memorise. Just remember to link the steps to the specific context in the question!

Otherwise I must have sketched and labelled a hundred COSO cubes and ISO 31000 framework diagrams to commit them to memory, which served as good idea generating prompts.

Is it possible to reupload the Acronym pdf that was uploaded previously?

I seem to be getting an error when I try to download it!

  7. Not an acronym list, but my idea generation / mark maximisation when I did SP9 (could be used for any exam really). Might be useful.

My list of key thoughts when answering a question:
    • What are they actually asking?
    • Answer the question
    • Go back to first principles
    • What would your answer be if it was worth 1,2,3… marks?
    • What chapter(s) is the solution from?
    • Give a definition
    • Consider practicalities
    • Generate more marks per point, ask yourself; Who? So What? Why? How? And? However?
    • Think of the big picture
    • Think of indirect consequences of the scenario
    • Use the details in the question – don’t be scared to re-state these
    • Look at the command verb and answer appropriately
    • Relate it to personal experience
    • Give examples – but as an add on to your point
    • +s & -s
    • State the obvious
    • Get the ½ marks – set up the point
