Hi Folks In theory, it should be quicker to qualify as a Fellow Actuary under the new syllabus as there are fewer exams. Do you think this would happen in reality though ? The exams are supposed to be rigorous, so I would expect the difficulty to increase ? What do you guys think ?
Yeah, Infinity and some others have a different perspective on that. What you said is true, but only if you count the A and B papers as one exam. In terms of content covered (at least at the CT level), it's more or less the same. Pensions, Monte Carlo, Decision Theory and (Mortality, Selection and Standardisation) have been removed, and they have been replaced with Extreme Value Theory, Copulas, Machine Learning and Bootstrapping. In terms of the exam hours (assuming you haven't taken any exams yet), they total the same hours. But due to the addition of R and Excel as well as the rearrangement of the entire CT level (instead of just splitting CT6 into a written paper and an R paper), it does become more strenuous, as learning to use these software to take exams also take time to learn (even with prior knowledge). Then bear in mind you sit the online component (open-book, but very tight time constraint - to be discussed further when we can on this forum) as well as the written component within a day from each other. And if you just so happen to have one half of CT1/CT5 or CT4/CT6 and aren't also in an accredited university programme of the old syllabus to clear the other part, then you have to sit the new papers anyway, so that's more exams overall regardless of how you look at it.
How do you figure there are fewer exams? It’s not what I think, it’s a matter of fact that there are more exams and more study hours. People who are half way through have to repeat exams and the examination time has increased to 3 hours and 15 minutes from 3 hours. Please advise who you determined there are less exams?
